GYROTONIC® Method

This is a unique movement and conditioning technique that addresses the entire body – increasing range of movement and creating functional strength. The method utilises specialised equipment designed to support and enhance the body’s natural movement patterns, allowing the body to work as one harmonious and balanced system.

GYROTONIC® exercise sequences are composed of three dimensional circular and spiralling movements designed to allow the joints to move fluidly through a full natural range of motion without jarring or compression.

Classes are taught on a one-to-one basis so can be tailored to suit any ability from those recovering from injury or living with chronic pain to elite dancers and athletes.

GYROKINESIS® Method

The GYROKINESIS® component of the system does not use equipment and is generally taught as a group class. The class begins with exercises seated on stools followed by floorwork and standing sequences.

Movement and breath are harmonised in fluid patterns to stimulate all the systems in the body simultaneously. The rhythmic repetitions of the sequences build to develop strength, mobility, balance and stamina.

Juliu Horvath

The GYROTONIC® method was created by Juliu Horvath, a Romanian former dancer who developed the technique and equipment after suffering a number of injuries during his career. We have had the pleasure of studying with Juliu for over twenty years and continue to do so as he develops the system further.

Yamuna Body Rolling: logo

Yamuna® Body Rolling (YBR) is an innovative method designed to strengthen and create space in every part of the body. Inflatable balls of various sizes and density are used to correct alignment, elongate and tone the musculature and improve bone quality.

By sinking your body weight into the ball you create traction that allows a deep multi dimensional stimulation and release. In addition the placement of the ball encourages the directing of breath to different parts of the body.

Devised by American yoga teacher Yamuna Zake, used correctly the ball becomes the hands of the therapist and is a powerful self help tool which can be practiced anywhere.

Elaine’s personal experience of the benefits of the system led her to qualify as an instructor.

Zena Rommett Floor-Barre®

Zena Rommett Floor Barre is a gentle yet highly effective and therapeutic method designed not just for dancers, but athletes the injured and elderly.

The continual focus on alignment and strengthening of joints prevents and rehabilitates injuries as well as addressing many muscular-skeletal functions.

The technique takes the basic ballet barre training from the standing position to the floor, taking the effort of standing out of the equation.
